In 2017 Australia voted on whether to legalise same-sex marriage, a long-overdue reform that unfortunately became a bitter and painful public debate. Queer Australians were suddenly in the spotlight, with the legitimacy of their relationships becoming a public question. It was an intense time, with harmful and homophobic points of view becoming part of the discourse. Staystrong.lgbt was a resource created to help those who were struggling in the lead up to the vote. It wasn't about voting 'yes', but rather a quick pick-me-up for queer people to stay grounded no matter the outcome.The website combined video, copywriting and music to deliver a message of positivity, supported by a poster campaign that appeared in the streets. The campaign was embraced by queer and straight Australians alike, being shared across social media as a message of support.
